Swedish fashion giant Hennes & Mauritz has reported a 15 per cent rise in overall sales in July, compared with market forecasts for a 13 per cent increase.

The retailer, the world's third biggest by sales, said turnover in established stores was up 3 per cent, compared with forecasts for a 2.1 per cent gain.

In June, sales in established stores had eased 2 per cent as economic gloom weighed on the retail sector.
