Dakar - Guinea-Bissau's embattled president and rebels have appointed a transition government charged with organising elections in the West African state next March, diplomatic sources said yesterday.

Speaking from the former Portuguese colony, the sources said the new cabinet team was headed by Mr Francis Fadul as prime minister.
