Los Angeles - Lauryn Hill, the 23-year-old soul diva who won the hearts of consumers and critics with her debut solo album, has won a record five Grammy awards, including album of the year and best new artist.

With her trophy haul, she broke Carole King's 1971 record for most awards won by a female artist in a single night.

The record and song-of-the-year prizes, the other two closely watched categories, went to My Heart Will Go On, the theme song of the 1997 film Titanic, whose singer was Celine Dion.

In a ceremony again dominated by women performers, artists such as Madonna, Alanis Morissette, Shania Twain and the country newcomers, the Dixie Chicks, also walked away with multiple trophies.
