Depositions should be taken without delay from witnesses in the case against Galwayman Mr Patrick Gillane, who is charged with soliciting two men to kill his wife, Philomena Gillane, a judge said yesterday.

Mr Gillane (33) of Glenbrack, Gort, denies a charge of soliciting Mr Christopher Bolger and Mr Michael Doyle in January 1994 to murder his wife.

Insp Padraic Rhattigan told Galway District Court that the defence and prosecution legal teams had yet to agree on a date to take depositions. He asked that the case be adjourned until April 29th for mention.

Judge John Garavan said that the legal teams should get their act together and agree on a date. He remanded Mr Gillane on continuing bail until April 29th.
