UEFA have not ruled out banning Ryan Giggs for the second leg of Wales' Euro 2004 play-off with Russia but it appears unlikely because of the timescale involved.

The Russian Football Union claim Giggs elbowed full-back Vadim Evseev in the 0-0 draw in Moscow on Saturday and said today they had sent a video tape of the alleged incident to UEFA.

But UEFA have not yet received the tape and would need to have it in their possession by tomorrow morning at the latest for any action to be taken.

If UEFA do decide to pursue the matter, Giggs and the Welsh football association will be contacted and asked to submit a statement and once this is received UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Committee would give a ruling.

Wales were furious with Russia's approach to the game and Giggs complained that one tackle on him by Evseev was "one of the worst I have had to contend with in my career".

Wales will progress to the Euro 2004 finals in Portugal next year if they beat Russia at the Millenium Stadium on Wednesday.
