The Taoiseach is expected to announce Ireland's new European Commissioner tomorrow after final discussions with the Tanaiste and the EU president-designate, Mr Romano Prodi. Former minister Ms Maire Geoghegan-Quinn remains favourite for the position, ahead of the Attorney General, Mr David Byrne. Sources say the Government has decided against nominating a third possible candidate, the Minister for Health, Mr Cowen.
