LONDON - The Church of England will confront the issue of gay priests at a general synod in July. London archdeacon, David Gerrard was quoted yesterday as saying he would introduce a private members motion on homosexuality at the meeting in York, northern England, on July 14th.

Gerrard is not gay, left wing or a crusader for sexual freedom, but he believes the subject of gay priests should be discussed. 170 members have supported his motion, guaranteeing it will be on the agenda of the synod, which acts as the Church of England's parliament.
