Gardaí are this afternoon continuing a forensic examination on an apartment in west Dublin where heroin with an estimated street value of up to €15,000,000 was seized yesterday.

The seizure was made in Clondalkin by members of the Dublin Metropolitan Region South Central Divisional Task Force, assisted by support units as part of the ongoing drugs combating operation, Operation Anvil.

Up to 30 kilos of heroin, 25 kilos of herbal cannabis, a machine gun, a small quantity of ammunition, a silencer, a sum of cash and a substance believed to be a mixing agent were also seized during the search.

A van and two cars were seized as part of the raid at the second floor apartment in the Yellow Meadows Road area, off Nangor Road in Clondalkin. It is thought that the apartment may have been used as a drugs factory.

There were no arrests. Two men - one of whom is reported to have been armed - escaped from the building when the gardai raided the apartment at around 8pm last night.

The find has been linked to drugs gangs operating in the Crumlin and Drimnagh areas.

Fianna Fáil's Dublin Mid West TD John Curran said the seizure showed the pressure is continuing on Dublin drugs gangs.

"It is clear that we are scoring major victories against the gangs," he said. There is no doubt that a seizure of this size will reduce supply onto the streets of Dublin."
