A national survey of Irish people's attitudes to nutrition, lifestyle and health is to be undertaken by the department of health promotion at NUI Galway.
A representative sample of 13,000 adults will be selected to take part in the study, which will examine lifestyle risk factors in relation to smoking, alcohol consumption, other substance use, mental health and well-being, dietary intake, exercise patterns and accident levels, as well as the interrelationship between them.
The Galway Research Department successfully acquired the tender from the Minister for Health, Mr Cowen, who commissioned the national survey, and a liaison person has been nominated by each of the health boards to a steering committee which will assist in the running of the project.
