French trade unions said they have started legal proceedings in a Paris court, the Tribunal de Grande Instance, to try and get a judgement blocking the planned closure of Marks & Spencer shops in France, and to have employees consulted.

They said they are also planning a joint union strategy to try and reverse the closures.
