New accounting procedures have been introduced in the map sales office of the Ordnance Survey after a fraud was uncovered there. An internal audit carried out last February found evidence of missing and altered receipts and customer cheques which could not be matched with any receipt issued.

According to the Comptroller, a Garda investigation into the irregularities is continuing.
