Four of the five people arrested in Co Cork today following an attack and attempted robbery of a woman have been released without charge.
Garadaí arrested the three women and two men following an incident in which a woman (72) was dragged by a car.
According to gardaí at 10:15am this morning the woman withdrew a sum of money from a Tesco filling station on the Model Farm Road in Ballincollig. When she returned to her car she drove in the direction of Ballincollig and noticed she was being followed by a car with five occupants.
As a precaution the woman pulled into a residential area at Chelmsfort before stopping. When she did the car that was following her also stopped and two men got out.
The men falsely accused her of crashing into them and then grabbed her handbag before getting back into their car.
The woman caught hold of her handbag and was dragged a short distance along the ground before the strap on her bag broke and the culprits drove away empty handed.
A short time later gardaí arrested the five occupants of the car at Mardyke Walk, Sundays Well.
This evening four of the five were released with one of the men remaining in custody in relation to a separate matter.
A file has been prepared for the DPP in relation to all five.
