A 25-year-old woman was killed when the car she was driving was in collision with a school bus on the Athlone road, just outside Ballinasloe, Co Galway, at 9.15 a.m. Ms Anne Carbery, from Barrack street, Castlerea, Co Roscommon, worked in the courts service. There were no children on the bus..

At 4.10 p.m. a 14-year-old boy was killed as he stepped off a bus in Glentogher, Carrdonagh, Co Donegal.

In Co Mayo, a retired garda in his 60's was killed when his car was in collision with a lorry on the Swinford by-pass yesterday afternoon. A passenger in the car was seriously injured.
