Warsaw - Authorities in south and south-west Poland issued a flood alert yesterday after high water levels were registered in 40 rivers. In nearby Hungary, thousands of people were evacuated following torrential rains, aid organisations said. Some 50 people died in 1997 during floods in western Poland.
