Five US soldiers were wounded when their helicopter crashed and came under attack from rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) near the Iraqi city of Tikrit today, a US military spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman said the cause of the crash itself was "presently not known". "After the aircraft was on the ground, it was attacked with RPGs," she said. All five wounded soldiers were safely evacuated from the scene, she said.
