Five people were injured in two separate hit-and-run incidents, gardai said today.

In Cork, two men and two women were hit by a red car as they walked past the junction of Togher Road and the Westside Estate at around 12.50am.

The hit-and-run driver mounted the footpath and crashed into the group before making off.

All four were taken to hospital where the two men are said to be in a serious condition.

In a second incident a woman was left with serious leg injuries when she was hit by a car as she walked along Academy Street in Navan at 2.15am.

The woman was taken to Navan hospital for treatment were she is in a stable condition.

Gardai believe the car involved may have been a Silver Rover 45/500 model.

Gardai said they would like to speak to a woman who was a passenger in this car and who got out shortly before the collision took place.
