Five men were arrested this morning in connection with violence at a housing estate in Ballymena, Co Antrim, which left one man injured and a flat on fire yesterday afternoon.

A police spokewoman said the men (aged 22,25,27,36 and 45) are currently assisting them with their inquiries.

Yesterday afternoon a man suffered a suspected broken arm and a flat was set alight during violence in the housing estate.

Police said a crowd armed with sticks and other weapons gathered in Sandown Park in the Doury Road estate at about 1.50pm. The victim was assaulted in a flat, while a nearby property was torched and a car damaged.

Items including a crossbow bolt were recovered by police and taken away for examination.

Detectives appealed for anybody who witnessed the incident to contact them.
