Firearms and assault case adjourned

A court case involving a candidate in last year’s local elections who faces firearms charges has been adjourned.

A court case involving a candidate in last year’s local elections who faces firearms charges has been adjourned.

James Carey (26), Preston Hill, Stamullen, Co Meath, stood unsuccessfully as an Independent candidate in the Slane electoral area.

He faces a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm, two charges of assault and two charges alleging reckless discharge of a firearm. They are said to have taken place at Gormanston, Co Meath, in February 2001, when Mr Carey was 17.

He also faces a charge of dangerous driving.
