ATHENS - The US film director Jules Dassin, husband of the late Melina Mercouri, has become a Greek citizen, according to the Culture Minister, Mr Evangelos Venizelos. Mr Dassin (85) lives in Athens and his films include Never on Sunday, Rififi and Topkapi.

He heads a foundation named after his late wife, a former culture minister, who died of lung cancer in 1993. The foundation is fighting to recover the Parthenon Marbles from the British Museum in London.
