Fifth seed Roger Federer's French Open nightmare continued today when he lost 7-6, 6-2, 7-6 to Luis Horna of Peru in the first round.

Federer has now lost in the opening round in three of his five appearances at the tournament.

Horna (22), who was making his Roland Garros debut, arrived in Paris without a win at a grand slam event but dashed Federer's hopes in two hours and 11 minutes.

Horna will face Dutchman Martin Verkerk in the second round.
