A father and his four children have been found dead in a burned-out car in east London.

Following post-mortem examinations, police say the five died from severe burns and inhalation of fire fumes.

Their bodies were discovered in a silver Nissan Primera on an industrial estate in West Ham.

Police said earlier that the deaths are being treated as a possible murder and suicide. The man was estranged from his wife.

Police have refused to confirm the identities of the man and his children - two girls aged 12 and nine and two boys aged seven and six.

It is reported the father left a suicide note to his estranged wife saying: "I'm taking my kids with me."

The note apparently said: "There is a complicity with you and your sister. That's why I am giving you freedom to do your thing and look after your sister's kids, because I am taking mine with me."
