A family had a lucky escape when the apartment underneath them went on fire as they slept in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Exploding canisters and alarms woke the residents of the Rockview Terrace apartments in Arklow and the flats had been evacuated by the time two units of Arklow fire brigade arrived.
Yesterday Garda forensic experts were examining the scene to try and establish the cause of the fire.
Gardaí questioned a man in his 20s as they tried to establish the cause. The fire is believed to have started in a bedroom of one of the ground-floor apartments at 6am with an item of electric equipment thought most likely to be the source.
The family living above the fire, which included two young girls aged about four and five years, were being looked after at the Arklow Bay Hotel yesterday.
