BRITAIN'S NEWLY-appointed business secretary was politically reborn as Baron Mandelson of Foy in the county of Herefordshire and Hartlepool in the county of Durham in the House of Lords yesterday.
There were smiles for old friends and warm handshakes from new colleagues, although Mr Mandelson's triumphant return was marred by criticism over "transitional payments" to which he is entitled as a departing European commissioner.
These will see him paid £78,000 a year for the next three years in addition to his ministerial salary.
