Although the sunshine of last weekend is but a distant memory, there should be a few breaks from the election-weekend downpours tomorrow.
The rain will clear tonight over Munster to facilitate post-election pub-hopping while weekend temperatures across the country will range between a comfortable 14 and 18 degrees Celsius.
But tomorrow’s fair weather will be replaced by more rain on Sunday and blustery winds with heavy rain are expected in most areas.
Roads are expected to be busy this evening and, in addition to the normal weekend traffic problems, commuters should prepare for local traffic jams near many polling stations.
In Dublin, the Dundrum main street bypass is due to open tomorrow morning. There will be a permanent road closure at The Laurels, closing access from Sweetmount Ave into the Dundrum Shopping Centre or Dundrum Village.
Bus Éireann will operate a special service on Sunday taking punters to the Navan Races. Staying with the gee-gees, there should be a few traffic delays around the Cork Racecourse this evening between 5.30 p.m. - 8.30 p.m.
On Sunday, delays can be expected around the Walkinstown, Templeogue, Rathfarnham and Terenure areas from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for the Dublin Five Mile Classic.
In Meath, traffic is expected to be particularly heavy at the turnoff for the Mosney Holiday centre on the N1 about half way between Drogheda and Balbriggan, with 2,500 children taking part in the Community Games Special Activities Weekend.
If you’re taking a train this weekend, be on the look out for Iarnród Éireann’s first woman train conductor, who started work yesterday. Bridge replacement work continues on the East Wall Bridge this weekend, and DART, Drogheda suburban and Belfast Enterprise will be affected.
Expect a few delays on departures from the Cork, Shannon and Dublin airports due to the miserable weather conditions. But Irish Ferries and Stena Lines expect no delays on routes to France or England.
