The funeral of Tom Williams, an IRA member executed in 1942 for his role in the fatal shooting of an RUC officer, will take place at Milltown Cemetery in Belfast on Wednesday. The funeral will mark the end of a lengthy campaign by republicans for the return and reburial of the remains of the 19-year-old volunteer, which lay in an unmarked grave at the city's Crumlin Road jail for 57 years.

Leading republicans are hopeful the remains will be buried in the cemetery's republican plot. Relatives of Tom Williams are said to favour a family grave.
