Lisbon - The heaviest shelling yet in Guinea Bissau's 10day military revolt rocked the capital yesterday and a senior loyalist commander said government forces and their allies were gaining the upper hand.

The shelling was concentrated on the Bra military complex.

French diplomatic staff, apart from the ambassador, were evacuated yesterday, leaving only the embassy of Portugal open.
