TICKETS for the Trinity Ball, which has not been held since 1994, went on sale yesterday. The ball, a part of the city's social calendar for more than half a century, was cancelled due to poor ticket sales in 1995 and in 1996 fell to a SIPTU strike.
This year, 4,000 to 5,000 people, paying £35 per head, are expected to pack three squares in the college. Bands already booked include the reinvigorated Frank and Walters and old ska lags the Specials, but most attention is likely to focus on the headline act.
The mystery band's participation is, apparently, 99 per cent confirmed and, at the time of writing, lips were fairly tightly sealed about its identity, but here's an exclusive set of clues: Baddiel, Skinner, Three Lions. Book your tickets now...
. The satirist, impressionist and thorn in the side of British politicos, Rory Bremner, will speak at the inaugural meeting of the TCD Philosophical Society in the college tonight.
Bremner, whose Channel 4 shows have moved from genial impressions to more biting political commentary in recent years, will speak on Satire, Humour and Power in the Exam Hall, TCD, at 7.30 p.m.
