A series of Irish classes, specifically aimed at adults, will commence in Patrick Pearse's renovated home at 27 Pearse Street in Dublin city centre from September 24th. The classes are organised by Sult, an Irish-language club which holds social nights to encourage adults to use their Irish in a relaxed setting.
Classes will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays and there is a choice of two starting times: 6.30 p.m. and 8 p.m. There are five levels: Bunrang/Beginners; Meβnrang 1/Lower Intermediate; Meβnrang 2/Upper Intermediate; Ardrang/Advanced; Rang Cruinnis/Accuracy in Irish. Each class will last an hour and a half. The courses will run for 20 weeks and cost £150.
The needs of each learner group will be analysed by using questionnaires before and during a course.
An information session will take place before commencement of classes to give learners the opportunity to meet their teacher and to get advice. In addition, a placement test will be offered to best assess the learner's ability. There will be a maximum of 15 persons in each beginner class and a maximum of 20 in every other class.
Contemporary topics and everyday events will be discussed so as to build up a useful vocabulary. The intention will be to allow the learner to use any Irish he or she might have. The fee can be refunded by the third week of the course to anyone who feels the class they are in is unsuitable.
