Dear Editor,
As first communions are being celebrated again, I remembered "Parents Diary" (E&L, February 6th), which mentioned "the ceremonial visit to the zoo" as being part of the day.
May I suggest that to view the deer herd, squirrels and birds in the Phoenix Park, or a visit to one of Dublin's regional parks to experience natural wildlife, may provide a more spiritual experience. Try taking a walk in the countryside or a forest perhaps a visit to an organic farm.
The gift of junior membership to an organisation promoting wildlife at home or in faraway places, or planting or sponsoring a tree on tie special day, may instill a lasting interest and respect for our local and global environment. What could be more educational? Yours Dunboyne, Co Meath.
