Draftnetting for salmon takes place in river estuaries and is heavily restricted, due to proximity to spawning grounds. A net is set in a semi circle from one bank only and is usually hauled in by up to four people.

Driftnetting takes place at sea using long nets to catch fish approaching the coast. Restrictions and season length vary from area to area, but the nets must not be fixed.
