A Co Donegal taxi driver was described as a “predatory attacker” when he was remanded in custody in court in Derry yesterday charged with raping a woman in the city last Thursday.

The 39-year-old pleaded not guilty to the rape offences alleged to have occurred in his taxi. A police officer told district judge Barney McElholm she opposed the defendant being granted bail “because it is believed he is a predatory attacker who poses a risk to females in general when he picks up fares”.The officer said police are now “reviewing a number of cases locally of a similar nature”.
