Donegal man gets pensioner award

A Co Donegal man has won the Irish Life sponsored Pensioner of the Year Award for his contribution to life in Buncrana.

A Co Donegal man has won the Irish Life sponsored Pensioner of the Year Award for his contribution to life in Buncrana.

Mr Pat McEleny (76) coordinated the St Vincent de Paul's efforts in his native county in raising £80,000 for famine relief.

He was also instrumental in the charity's jobs and housing scheme initiatives and led a campaign to send a sick child to Budapest for specialised treatment.

Mr McEleny was the overall winner out of 200 nominations.
