London - Millions of cold sufferers in Britain were warned yesterday not to raise their hopes too high after scientists announced a new drug to combat the viral infection.

Prof Ron Eccles, director of the Common Cold Centre at the University of Cardiff, said he believed publicity surrounding the development of pleconaril, a drug which eases the length and severity of the cold, could be "blown out of proportion".
