Dispute referred to Labour Court

SIPTU has taken the European Commission to the Labour Court in a dispute over trade union recognition

SIPTU has taken the European Commission to the Labour Court in a dispute over trade union recognition. The union is seeking to represent six clerical employees of the Commission at its Dublin offices. It has used section 20 of the Industrial Relations Act to refer the dispute to the court. Under this provision the union is binding itself in advance to the court's ruling. The Commission has yet to indicate if it will attend the hearing.
