A deserted mother of four young children who stole a packet of nappies was given probation yesterday. Winnie McDonagh (26), of Cappagh Campsite, Finglas, pleaded guilty at Dublin District Court to stealing the nappies worth £7.49 from Dunnes Stores, Cardiffsbridge Road, on November 18th.

The court heard the woman had been deserted by her husband and had a two-week-old baby as well as three other children aged two, three and four.

Garda Louise Lynch said the stolen property was recovered and the woman had no previous convictions. Judge Catherine Murphy applied the Probation Act.
