Regulations to ensure that all telecommunications antennae adhere to strict emission guidelines for non-ionising radiation are to be put in place.

The Minister for Environment and Local Government, Mr Dempsey made the commitment following discussions with members of the joint Oireachtas Committee on Planning and Local Government Regulations.

"I accepted the argument that the public need reassurance that the emission limits are not breached after planning exemptions are granted and I will put in place a regime which will ensure compliance either through certification or licensing and that no health issues arise," the Minister said.
