The sudden death has taken place of Killarney town councillor and one of the council’s longest-serving members, Michael Courtney.

Mr Courtney (79) was a former director of elections for Fine Gael and an independent member of the council. He was first co-opted in December 1970.

His removal will take place tomorrow night to St Mary’s Cathedral.
