Paris - The Louvre was closed yesterday afternoon and police searched visitors after an oil painting by the 19th century French painter Camille Corot was stolen in broad daylight, the Paris museum said.

"The thief stole the canvas, leaving in place the frame and the protective glass cover," said a statement. The painting, Chemin de Sevres, 13.4 in by 19.3 in had been in the museum's collection since 1902.
