Kildare school closed after shooting threat written on bathroom wall

Gardaí are investigating a threat written on a bathroom wall at a Kildare secondary school, which was closed on Tuesday over the incident.

It is understood graffiti in one of the school’s bathrooms suggested the threat of a shooting at the school.

Scoil Dara, is a co-ed secondary school in Kilcock on the Co Kildare border with Dublin near Maynooth, with around 850 students.

Gardaí are investigating the incident in full, but it is understood the security threat is not considered to be credible.

The school management became aware of the threat on Monday, and following a meeting of the Board of Management decided to close the school on Tuesday.

In a short statement the school’s board said “as student safety and welfare are paramount an emergency meeting of the Board of Management, on Monday night, decided to close the school for students on Tuesday.”

“Following consultation with gardaí and relevant agencies the school will reopen tomorrow, Wednesday, December 6th 2017, for class at nine o’clock” the statement said.

A spokesman for the Garda confirmed an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
