Gardaí appeal for witnesses after Carndonagh assault

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a 73-year-old man was seriously assaulted in Carndonagh, Co Donegal last night.

The incident happened at about 9.30pm on Convent Road in the town. The man was taken by ambulance to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry where his condition is described as serious.

A male aged in his 30s was arrested in connection with the incident and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Buncrana Garda Station. The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
