Leading family law solicitor Eugene Davy has decided to merge his firm with Hayes and Son, which will expand its family law division as a result, according to Hayes partner Andrew O'Rorke.

This follows an earlier expansion eighteen months ago when Carol Fawsitt, a specialist in both family law and employment law, brought her practice to the firm. Both areas of law are developing all the time, he said.

Hayes and Son is one of the oldest solicitors' firms in the country, having been founded in 1840, but the last "son" in its title died over 50 years ago, he said.

One of the principles in the firm was Admiral-General in 1916, and directed the Helga up the Liffey to bomb the GPO during the Rising, according to Mr O'Rorke.

The latest expansion is part of a planned development of the firm, taking in new areas of expertise, and it will also be moving office in the near future.
