A man charged with the murder of his mother at their Dún Laoghaire home has been further remanded in custody until next month. Jane Braidwood (65), a mental health professional, died from stab wounds at her house on Clarinda Park East on January 20th.

The mother of three grown-up children had been taken to St Vincent’s hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Her son Fionn Braidwood (30), who lived at the same address, had been charged with her murder. He was remanded in custody on January 22nd with a judge's order that he was to be given a psychiatric assessment to ascertain his fitness to stand trial.

Mr Braidwood appeared on Thursday at Cloverhill District Court before Judge Victor Blake, who further remanded him in custody to appear again on February 5th. The defendant, who was on social welfare and has been granted legal aid, had replied "no" when originally charged last week.
