Armed men steal sum of money in cash-in-transit robbery

Staff of van threatened with handgun during delivery of cash to post office in Dublin

Gardaí are searching for men who used a gun to threaten security guards during a cash-in-transit robbery in Dublin on Thursday.

The van was delivering cash to a post office in Touche Road, Bluebell in Dublin 12 when two men approached the security staff at about 3.35pm.

One of the men pointed a handgun at the staff and then took an undisclosed amount of cash. There were no injuries.

The pair fled the scene in a grey Volkswagen Golf, which had a partial registration of 07 D, in the direction of Kylemore Road.

The getaway car that was waiting for the duo in Bluebell Avenue was driven by a third man.

Gardaí found the car, which was reported stolen on February 9th, close to the scene a short time later.

The two men who carried out the robbery had Dublin accents.

The first suspect is aged early to mid-20s, 5ft 7in and of thin build. He wore a dark-coloured top with the hood pulled up and a chequered scarf covering his face.

The second suspect is described as being in his mid 20s, 5ft 9in, and of thin build. He also wore a dark hooded top and had his face covered. There is no description of the driver of the car.

One man has been detained as part of the investigation. In the early hours of Friday morning, investigators stopped and searched a car on Francis Street in Dublin 8.

After an amount of money was found, a 19-year-old man was arrested and is in custody at Kevin Street Garda Station.
