A credit union employee in Monaghan has been sent for trial on 28 charges of theft to appear again at Monaghan Circuit Court for next month. Columba Gorman (46), Dr McKenna Terrace, Pound Hill, Killygoan, is accused of the theft of €31,000 from the branch.

Sitting at Monaghan District Court, Judge Seán Martin McBride has refused to take jurisdiction of the case in his court stating that “these are very serious matters”.

He ordered that Mr Gorman should be afforded legal aid as he was suspended from his work and also that a junior barrister be selected for a trial in Monaghan Circuit Criminal Court when it next sat, on October 4th.
