The Supreme Court said it would give a decision as quickly as possible on the question of the constitutionality of Part V of the new Planning and Development Bill.

Part V was referred to the court by the President, Mrs McAleese, on June 30th. It deals with the transfer to a planning authority of land required for "social and affordable" housing purposes and provides for the transfer of up to 20 per cent of land which has permission for housing development.
