A Fine Gael member of Donegal County Council is appealing a decision by the party's disciplinary committee to expel him from the organisation, writes Deaglán de Bréadún.
The expulsion has been put on hold, pending the outcome of the appeal by Cllr Terence Slowey, which will be heard by Fine Gael’s executive council on May 14th.
The disciplinary committee examined a report of the Standards in Public Office Commission (SIPO) that Cllr Slowey contravened the Local Government Act and Regulations by claiming expenses for attending two different conferences that took place on the same weekend.
