Dublin Corporation has said it is confident that it will have restored water pressure to 95 per cent of homes in the Tallaght, Crumlin, Walkinstown and Saggart areas of the city by this morning, following a total loss of water pressure yesterday afternoon. The disruption to water supply arose from a failure of chlorination units at the corporation's water production plant at Ballymore Eustace yesterday afternoon. "Full production was re stored at 10.05 p.m.," the Deputy City Engineer, Mr Tom Leahy, said.

Seven mobile chlorination units were mobilised to restore water supply, he said. An emergency response team arrived in Dublin from Manchester at 7 p.m yesterday evening to assess the problem.

All three of the chlorination units - one duty, and two stand-by - failed, although the corporation reported last night the problem had been resolved.
