A teenager died early this morning after a car that was reported stolen in Cork city was involved in a collision.

The male driver (17) was killed in the accident at Lotamore, Old Youghal Road, Cork, at 1.35am. The crash happened when the vehicle collided with a pillar at the entrance to a private house.

A male passenger (20) in the car was rushed to Cork University Hospital, where his condition is stable.

A Garda spokesman said: "The car had earlier been reported stolen from a service station on Skehard Road. The car had been seen on a number of occasions by gardaí during the night."
