Consumer Strategy Group: what it is and who is on it

The Consumer Strategy Group was set up by the Tánaiste and then minister for enterprise, trade and employment in March 2004

The Consumer Strategy Group was set up by the Tánaiste and then minister for enterprise, trade and employment in March 2004. Its brief was to make proposals for the development of a national consumer strategy.

The group has commissioned the most extensive research on consumer issues ever carried out in Ireland. The report has been submitted to the Government but not published.

The chairwoman of the group is Ann Fitzgerald, chief executive of the Irish Association of Investment Managers.

The members are:

Rosheen Callender, economist, Siptu;

Stephen Costello, chairman of the General Consumer Council of Northern Ireland;

Colin Hunt, special adviser to the Minister for Transport;

Dermott Jewell, chief executive of the Consumers' Association of Ireland;

Orna Ní Chionna, company director;

Simon Nugent, former chief executive of the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland;

John O'Sullivan, managing director of Aircoach;

Aileen O'Toole, managing director of AMAS Ltd;

Alex Schuster, law lecturer at Trinity College Dublin;

Edward Shinnick, economics lecturer at University College Cork.
