Details were announced today of a conference to be held in Dublin next month on the future of Europe.
The conference, entitled "Another Europe Is Possible", has been organised by the European United Left/Nordic Green Left political grouping in the European Parliament.
It will bring together Sinn Féin's two MEPs, Mary Lou McDonald and Bairbre de Brun; Labour's Proinsias De Rossa; Irish trade union representatives; the European Anti-Poverty Network; and the European Commission representation in Ireland at a one-day event in Liberty Hall.
"The EU faces very many challenges in the time ahead, not least addressing its fundamental democratic and communication deficit, the issues of poverty, privatisation and workers rights," said Ms McDonald.
"It is hoped that this conference will add to the debate which is already under way on promoting a radically different EU. The present EU is one obsessed with increasing its military capacity, expanding its nuclear stock and prioritising economic growth at the expense of all else."
